Canadaland taps Acast to expand its podcast network and supercharge ad sales
After unveiling its Fall 2022 slate of programming, Canadaland is partnering with Acast to draw wider audiences globally and offer brands state-of-the-art sponsorship capabilities
Canadaland has selected Acast, the world’s largest independent podcast company, as its podcast partner. Acast will lead distribution and accelerate promotion and sales for Canadaland’s podcast network, both domestically and globally.
Boasting more than 8 million listeners per year and 10,000 monthly paying supporters, Canadaland is home to an ever-growing slate of culturally impactful, critically acclaimed series offering a diverse range of voices and perspectives. The network has exposed some of the most significant news stories in Canada’s recent history, such as the WE Charity scandal and the rampant violence toward Indigenous communities in Thunder Bay.
“As Canadaland approaches its second decade, our ambition — like our audience — has grown significantly,” said Jesse Brown, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Canadaland. “We look forward to working with the Acast team to help us build new audiences in Canada and beyond, and to seize new opportunities to work with just the right advertisers. This partnership will allow our podcasters and journalists to expand on their important work to date, and continue to bring audiences engaging stories that aren't getting told elsewhere.”
Through the new partnership, Acast will further expand Canadaland’s impact by making its shows available to audiences across all markets and podcast platforms. Advertisers will be able to purchase ads and sponsorships on Canadaland podcasts through the Acast Marketplace, which supports both traditional and programmatic buying. Canadaland podcasts will use Acast’s industry-leading dynamic ad insertion technology, which means each listener will hear relevant, timely ads inserted into episodes the moment they’re streamed or downloaded.
The announcement comes after Canadaland recently unveiled its Fall 2022 slate of podcasts, which features a wide selection of compelling new programming:
- The Backbench will return for a new season on September 20 with beloved Jeopardy! champion Mattea Roach as the new host;
- The network will launch a brand new, limited series in the fall called Ratf*cker: Confessions of a Dirty Tricks Operative, a stranger-than-fiction tell-all that will cover political fixer David Wallace;
- Karyn Pugliese will host Canadalandback in October, leading an all-Indigenous team of journalists in an exploration of three generations of resistance;
- Wag the Doug will return to grapple with the reality of four more years with the Fords and what that means for Ontario;
- And much more.
“In a short time, Canadaland’s essential storytelling has fostered a massive audience and brought vital perspectives to people all around the country,” said Heather Gordon, Managing Director, Canada at Acast. “We look forward to bringing their high-calibre programming to new audiences and enabling brands to build deep alignment with their work. Canadaland’s trust in Acast to manage its podcast business demonstrates once again that Acast is the partner of choice for Canada’s premier publishers and creators.”
Canadaland joins Acast Canada’s rich portfolio of publishers and news organizations, including eOne, Apostrophe Podcast Network, and more.
Fans can find Canadaland podcasts on all podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Samsung Free, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, Overcast, and anywhere else they listen.
